Artist: Davide Cantoni

Davide Cantoni’s art explores the way society produces, reproduces, perceives, and reacts to images. Rooted in the act of attentive observation, his works invite viewers to reflect on our collective experience of time and place.

Using news imagery as source material, Cantoni draws attention to the fleeting nature of media—a reflection of how events, once significant, are often relegated to "yesterday's news." His Burned Drawings and Interference Paintingsreplicate photography’s visual language while grounding themselves firmly in the traditions of fine art. The Code Paintings critically examine the commodification of art through the use of anti-counterfeit pigments. In the Specular Paintings, Cantoni crafts paired canvases that mirror and contrast each other, challenging perceptions of originality and authorship.

Born in Italy, Cantoni studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, later earning his MA from the Royal College of Art. His work has been exhibited globally, including at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Cantoni’s art is part of numerous public and private collections, embodying a unique dialogue between tradition, innovation, and cultural commentary
